Alpine ISD Interim Superintendent Dennis McEntire said this week that the new high school building will be finished this summer — in time for students to start the 2022-23 school year.
The concrete foundation was poured just over a year ago at the corner of North Highway 118 and West Hendryx Avenue, the site of the current building, most of which will be torn down when the new structure is complete.
The District’s voters favored the $22.5 million bond by a razor thin margin in the November 2018 election. In addition to the new high school academic building, the band hall, gym, agriculture and welding facilities along Fighting Buck Ave have been significantly remodeled, and a Career and Technology Education (CTE) classroom was added to that wing, which faces Kokernot Field.
The middle school and elementary campus gyms have been fitted with new air conditioning systems, also paid from the bond.
McEntire said the District is exploring ideas for an efficient move, including asking the Class of 2022 to take some time in their final week of school to help, or a possible “community moving day.”
He guided a tour of the construction site on Monday. A series of four videos with descriptions is posted below.
Below: Entering the Ag facilities from a west facing door, then moving into the CTE classroom, followed by the welding shop, and back through the Ag classroom. The video ends in a short hallway between the Ag rooms and the small gym. This portion of the campus was remodeled using the existing foundation. (1 of 4)
Below: From the southernmost end of the new structure, through the entrance, and onto the first floor. Correction: The narration states that this section of the building is facing east. It is actually facing west. (2 of 4)
Below: The second floor. Big classrooms, big views. There is a large common area or multi-use space and gallery walls. (3 of 4)

Oh, Betse! You're so ahead of all the other (ahem, cough-cough) media! This is fantastic, and I love your videos. My only complaint is that I'm not there to watch the new high school rise up. Holy cow! Just fantastic, girl.
Excellent article! Thank you for the information Mija! 😘
