Early voting starts today
City, school, tax propositions on ballot
Early voting in several local elections starts today.
Between now and Tuesday, May 3, anyone registered to vote within the boundaries of the City of Alpine can vote in the mayoral election between Catherine Eaves and Amit Rangra.
Two council members, Chris Rodriguez (Ward 2) and Martin Sandate (Ward 4) are both unopposed.
Alpine school board incumbent Mary McCallister faces Elpidia Lujan in District 7. Only those who live within the boundaries of the district can vote in that election. Find a map of the single member districts by scrolling to the bottom of this page.
District 5 incumbent Justin Cross removed himself from the ballot, making his challenger, Haley Babb, unopposed.
All ballots for both the city council and the school district will be cast at the City Council Chambers, 803 W. Holland, next door to the Alpine Civic Center, between 8 am. and 5 p.m. Election Day is Saturday, May 7.
A statewide Constitutional Amendment election on two tax propositions is being held on the same dates, but votes will be cast in a different location.
To vote early on Propositions 1 and 2, which deal with how you are taxed by school districts, go to the Val Clark Beard building, otherwise known as the Old Library, on 7th Street across from the Brewster County Courthouse. Vote early through May 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Election Day is Saturday, May 7, when ballots will be cast in voting precincts.
Anyone registered to vote in Brewster County is eligible to vote in this election.
Reminder: We’re going to have another election later in May to decide several run-offs. Democracy is messy and occasionally inconvenient, but elections are important and easy. Please go vote.
