URGENT: Nobody has filed for election in council wards, one has filed for mayor
Incumbents are the only school board candidates so far
With 10 days until the deadline, Catherine Eaves of Alpine is the lone mayoral candidate in the city election. Current Mayor Andy Ramos is term limited.
Both the City of Alpine and Alpine ISD hold staggered elections. This year on the city council, the mayor’s seat and Wards 2 and 4 are open. On the school board, Single Member Districts 5 and 7 are open.
The filing deadline for both is on Friday, Feb. 18, at 5 p.m. The election is May 7.
Neither of the city council incumbents, Chris Rodriguez (Ward 2) or Martin Sandate (Ward 4), have filed for re-election.
In the school district, Justin Cross (District 5) and Mary McCallister (District 7) have both filed, though they are so far unopposed.
Those who are interested in running for the city council can file their applications at the administrative offices at 100 N. 13th Street next door to the Alpine Civic Center. To file for the school board, visit the offices at 704 W. Sul Ross Avenue.
